Chinese proverb

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi trains body and mind together to create a synergy.

Sometimes referred to as "meditation in movement" the flowing, circular movements of Tai Chi harmoniously brings mind and body together to cultivate vitality. The result is often energizing. Traditional Tai Chi however is not limited to solo practice, it's also a martial art and therefore includes some contact with training partners. This adds a fascinating dimension.

Our classes are composed of a 15-minute standing Chi Kung designed to rest the mind by allowing it to settle naturally in the centre of the body (in the lower abdomen). Here, there are barely any movements at all, relative stillness allows our often busy mind to calm down and gather at the centre. We then move on to a series of 10 gentle but formidable warm-up exercises to loosen the body. The third part of the class is about learning the Yang-style Tai Chi form! A traditional sequence of martial movements to circulate the chi further and deepen rooting/grounding. The last part of the class is about connections and applications. We conclude with a simple stretch. The results/effects of a class are multidimensional and vary considerably from person to person.

Tai Chi is an internal art. Stillness and slow gentle movements allows for deeper work and, perhaps paradoxically, it can feel quite intensive.

What are the benefits?

Benefits may be felt on three levels:

Tai Chi may release tensions, improve balance and gently tone muscles groups harmoniously and safely.

Secondly, traditional Tai Chi traditionally may loosen up subtle elements in the body.

Given more time and regular practice Tai Chi may develop qualities that are hard to describe such as inner calmness, true relaxation, grounding or a sens of flow and energy. All of which can be used in daily life. This is better felt directly from a master, which brings us to the Master Ding Academy.

Master John Ding,
6th generation Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan lignage holder

has dedicated his life to martial arts and the development and propagation of traditional Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. Thought by the bests, his knowledge and power are better felt directly than described. We warmly recommend attending one of his numerous open workshops in the UK and Europe to feel what traditional tai chi can truly offer.
is a European groupe of branches with thousands of fun, friendly, experienced and skilled potential training partners.
